The Location
St Lucia, located in the Umkhanyakude District of KwaZulu-Natal, serves as the gateway to one of Africaβs most diverse and protected natural regions.
The surrounding iSimangaliso Wetland Park, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999 and protected under the Ramsar Convention, offers a rare combination of pristine beaches, wetlands, lakes, coral reefs, and abundant wildlife.
The park is home to approximately 1,200 Nile crocodiles and nearly 800 hippopotamuses, with hippos often seen roaming through town at night. Wildlife in the region also includes leopard, kudu, black rhino, and an exceptional variety of birdlife.
The areaβs history stretches back over 130,000 years, with archaeological discoveries in the nearby Lebombo Mountains revealing evidence of early human settlement and thousands of ancient stone tools.
Today, St Lucia offers visitors unforgettable experiences including boat cruises, game drives, turtle tours, beach outings, and a unique blend of coastal beauty and wildlife encounters.
A true home away from home in one of South Africaβs most extraordinary destinations.
