Welcome to Rhodene!

We offer ten self-catering luxury cottages and a modern farmhouse: three cottages on Rhodene and seven cottages, plus the farmhouse, on Voëlvlei. Just an hour and a half’s drive from Cape Town and only 500 metres off a tarred road, the farm is nestled at the foot of the Skurweberg Mountains, boasting breathtaking views across the lush Ceres Valley.

Relax in your private cottage, take a leisurely walk or cycle through the mountains, enjoy bass fishing in our farm dam, or unwind in one of our exclusive wood-fired hot tubs available at three of the cottages. For wine lovers, there are numerous wineries within a 50-kilometre radius offering delicious and affordable wines.

In the heart of the Witzenberg, in the midst of the Cape Winelands lies the beautiful town of Ceres. This quaint town is surrounded by mountains and breath-taking beautiful passes. Its tranquil atmosphere makes it the ideal place to unwind. During summer we experience blue skies and windless days while in winter we experience more sunny days than rainy ones which makes it the favourite all year round destination.

A mere 160km or 90 minute drive from Cape Town, Ceres is home to South Africa’s finest fruit farms. These fruit and vegetable farms give it a picturesque look during summer and in autumn the different shades of colour will leave you breathless. From mid November to mid January the cherry farm, Klondyke is open to the public to pick their own cherries. Fruit farm tours can be arranged on request. The internationally branded Ceres Fruit Juices are also, as the name suggests, proudly produced in Ceres. Today there are more pear trees in this fertile region than all of the other Cape fruit regions together. The region also dominates the export of peaches, however, plums, grapes, potatoes, onions, apples and wheat are also produced.

The valleys of Ceres, the Koue Bokkeveld (even boasts its own Table Mountain) and the open plains of the Tanqua Karoo (Ceres Karoo) were first inhabited thousands of years ago by the San and the Khoi. These people left a rich heritage of beautiful and some of the best-preserved rock paintings and other archaeological treasures. For the more peaceful souls the Tanqua Karoo offers an abundant, seemingly infinite scenery with the most amazing sunsets and clearest, starlit skies. Perfect for the weary city dweller looking for a laid back weekend escape.

Ceres is also known as the Gateway to Adventure. This beautiful district is home to some of the best 4×4 routes, mountain bike trails, scenic hiking trails, abseiling, kloofing, zipsliding and many more. Game reserves will remind you of Africa’s ancient days whilst the nature reserves will leave you with memories of green vegetation. The town has also evolved into one of South Africa’s most popular birdwatching destinations. More and more visitors also realise that Ceres is the ideal break-away destination for fishing, with a variety of different spots for visitors to choose from.

During winter we often have snow and has already captured the title “South Africa’s own little Switzerland”.

Another attraction of the town is the Transport Riders Museum. The name Transport riders originated from the very big influence that the transport riders had on the development of Ceres. The completion of Michell’s Pass in 1848 made Ceres accessible to wagons, and within time one of the main routes to the diamond fields went through the town. The visitor to the museum can learn more about the natural history of the area, the first inhabitants and their lifestyle as well as the establishment of Ceres. Other exhibits include the destructive earthquake of 1969, a collection of wagons and many more displays.

The district also offers a variety of arts and crafts, home-made treats, coffee shops and many more.
